Math Fun

Here is a simple way to practice math facts (works best for addition or multiplication) made for 2 players.  Using a deck of cards with aces and face cards removed, deal an equal amount of cards to each player.  On the count of 3, each player places their top card face up.  The kids will add (or multiply) the two numbers on the cards together and shout the answer.  The first player to say the correct answer gets to keep the cards.  In case of a tie, push those 2 cards aside, play again and the winner gets all 4 cards (2 from the tie, and 2 from the current match).  The player with the most cards at the end, wins!  How do you use playing cards to practice math skills?

What an easy and fun game! This will give me the chance to use some fun shaped decks of cards that I've been collecting!

This is really funny, because while I was driving home from work tonight I was trying to come up with some new math centers (addition and subtraction) and I thought up a similar game. Remove the aces and face cards, and divide the cards evenly. Each player turns over two cards; if playing addition they add them up and the student with the highest sum gets to keep them. And if playing subtraction, they subtract the smaller number from the larger one, and the student with the largest difference gets to keep all the cards. Haven't tried it yet, I plan to tomorrow I'll try to let you know how it goes....

Great idea. My kids always seem to enjoy math more if we can learn it with a game.
